Fraternities and sororities at the University of Iowa are self-governing organizations that are responsible for following policies and procedures outlined by three major entities: their own inter/national organization, their respective governing council, and the University of Iowa. Additionally, all fraternities and sororities are registered student organizations and are subject to all policies and procedures as such. As organizations overseen by 4 full time staff members they also have increased support and guidance in creating the best possible experiences for their members.
It is vital that students who are considering joining a chapter are aware of the accountability history of that organization. This ensures that everyone is aware of the choices made by members of that organization and the type of behavior that organization engages in. It's also important to note which organizations are currently recognized by the University of Iowa and which organizations are not currently recognized.
To provide transparency related to the current status of each organization, there is an accountability action document below that can provide details relevant to any accountability process utilized from one of the entities listed above.
