Our Mission
We, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) exist to advance conditions conducive to the success of its member chapters and to promote the progress of the fraternity and sorority life experience. With this aim, the MGC actively encourages collaboration and community with other fraternity/sorority governing councils and student governance bodies. The Multicultural Greek Council serves all organizations within the MGC as a support group and governing body in their events and communities to promote cultural awareness, improve relations among all fraternities and sororities, and increase the visibility of all identities.

Recruitment / Joining an MGC Chapter
Each MGC chapter has an independent and unique membership selection process. Each chapter will typically hold its own recruitment period, usually towards the beginning of each semester. Each organization's recruitment events entail informational meetings, philanthropic and education sessions and social events. Any interested students are strongly encouraged to attend these events. We also encourage research on the organizations and attendance at other programs held by the chapter to learn more about the organization and it's members. The best way to gain information about a chapter’s recruitment is to contact them directly or follow them on social media!
Each semester, MGC hosts an orientation. During MGC orientation, information is shared with prospective members about all the chapters in MGC and is a good opportunity to get answers to questions about Fraternity and Sorority Life in general. This program also explains the benefits and expectations of membership in a Fraternity or Sorority.

Community History
The University of Iowa is proud to be home to the founding of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. in 1986 and Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. in 1990. The Alpha Chapters of both of these organizations continue to thrive within the University of Iowa Fraternity & Sorority Community.
In 2009, members of Sigma Lambda Beta and Sigma Lambda Gamma began work on the creation of the fourth governing council at Iowa. On February 16, 2010, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) was officially established. The Multicultural Greek Council is proud to be the newest council on campus.
Our council governs multicultural fraternities and sororities that represent Latinx, Asian, and LGBTQ+ communities, yet are inclusive of people of all cultural identities.
