The following resources are for chapter leaders and general chapter operations. It is vital that our community stay committed to our five opportunities; Belong, Serve, Lead, Thrive, and Succeed. For this to happen we must try to bring back a sense of normality to our organizations. The resources below are tools to help our chapter achieve this goal.

Chapters Resources

Chapter Leadership:

The follow resources are tools that chapter leadership can use to continue continue meeting and engaging with their chapter.

Ideas for chapter engagement

  • Senior shout out videos to honor those graduating
  • Virtual town hall with general chapter members
  • Personality assessments to complete with exec teams
  • Social media takeovers with chapter officers or members
  • Send a weekly video to your officers/chapters to say hello and provide updates, perhaps rotate and have a different officer send it each week
  • Host virtual chapter meetings, exec meetings, or pledge class meetings (have an exec member oversee one pledge class to connect with weekly)
  • Resume/cover letter workshop
  • Virtual movement/workout class of some kind-bonus points if it's led by a member!

General Resources

Academic Resources

Given the recent announcement that all UI courses will shift online for the upcoming weeks, Fraternity and Sorority Life wanted to provide some resources surrounding Supplemental Instruction (SI) and Tutor Iowa.

Supplemental Instruction:

SI will be moving online so that students will continue to have this type of support for their courses and the session schedule will remain the same. The ARC will be closed starting Saturday, March 14th and will remain closed until in-person course instruction resumes. Students enrolled in SI-supported courses will be receiving additional information via email, including details on how to access their virtual SI sessions over spring break. Please be patient with us as we navigate offering SI in this new format.

Tutor Iowa:

Tutor Iowa will still remain a centralized website for academic support resources and options. We are working with each center to update their hours and availability of services. Additionally, there are already academic success strategy resources on the website and we are working to expand the information regarding success in online courses. Attached is an image that can be shared on social media to help increase awareness about Tutor Iowa to students in our community.

Connectivity for students who don't have it:

  • FCC agreement stating that providers will waive late fees, not cutoff service for lack of payment, and open hot-spots.
  • Comcast COVID-19 response: offers free WiFi for 2 months to low income families plus all Xfinity hot-spots are free to the public during this time
  • Charter Free Internet offer for 2 months
  • AT&T COVID-19 response: offers open hot-spots, unlimited data to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low income families
  • Verizon COVID-19 response: no special offers, but following the FCC agreement.
  • Sprint COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, provides unlimited data to existing customers, and, starting Tuesday, 3/17/2020, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge (I expect others will follow).
  • T-Mobile COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, plus unlimited data to existing customers, and, coming soon, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge (I expect others will follow).
