The Interested Gentlemen of Lambda Theta Phi are the newest addition to the Multicultural Greek Council. They are an interest organization, planning to bring Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, inc. to the University of Iowa this spring 2018. The founding chapter in New Jersey was the first Latino fraternity in the United States. Being a monumental chapter means each chapter takes great pride in continuing to emphasize Latino unity through their national work with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Locally, the Interested Gentlemen of Lambda Theta Phi are collaborating with various organizations (e.g., Association of Latinos Moving Ahead and MGC fraternities and sororities). Currently, the Gentlemen are seeking assistance from University Counseling Services to establish mental health awareness in minority groups on campus.

Lambda Weekend 2018: Getting to know Lambda Theta Phi members from UW-Madison and Iowa State

Every member holds academics in high esteem and they gather at the Latino Native American Cultural Center (LNACC) and support each other with any questions or concerns. There will be opportunities for professional development and leadership in the Fall to fill executive positions. Through the national organization, there are many conferences that members can attend to enhance their leadership skills, network with unique and accomplished members, as well as aid in academic and social support.

The Interested Gentlemen of Lambda Theta Phi are heavily involved in political and social action both nationally and locally. In November 2017, the Gentlemen hosted a Power of the Pen event to bring attention to the matter of immigration reform and DACA revision. They reached out to University of Iowa community members, including university students and faculty for support, to attain signatures for letters that were sent to Iowa senators and representatives. They aim to continue holding events to raise awareness for various issues facing the Latinx community as well as use their platform to inform and provide opportunities to get involved.
