Sorority life at Iowa began with Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1882. Today, the Panhellenic Council includes 14 chapters. These unique chapters carry out the same values of leadership, scholarship, friendship and service as their Iowa founders of the past.

Fall 2019 Primary Recruitment
We are so delighted that you are interested in participating in Fall 2019 Panhellenic Primary Recruitment at The University of Iowa. The University of Iowa’s Fraternity & Sorority Life Staff and students are committed to making campus feel welcoming and inclusive for all incoming and current students.
Members of the Panhellenic Community commit to collegiate years focused on service, academics, social connections, leadership, personal development, and a continued goal of improving Iowa’s campus and community.
The Primary Recruitment process takes place over two weekends. The first weekend is scheduled for September 26th through September 29th. The second weekend is scheduled for October 3rd through October 7th, with Bid Day falling on October 7th. The Panhellenic Primary Recruitment process is an involved one, with full schedules on each of those days, utilizing the late afternoon and evening hours on Thursday, Friday and Monday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Students must be considered a full-time student (registered for at least 12 semester hours at The University of Iowa).
It is important to understand The University of Iowa’s Panhellenic Primary Recruitment is a mutual selection process and participating in Fall Primary Recruitment does not guarantee a Potential New Member an invitation to join a Panhellenic sorority. “Mutual Selection” is based on the individual chapter’s decision if they see you fit and your decision if you see yourself fit. We have a high placement rate and many women find their home in our community. Your best chance of joining an organization is to keep an open mind and to maximize your options.
Registration for Panhellenic Primary Recruitment will be open from May 20th through September 4th. Click here to register.
