Interfraternity Council

History

The story of the University of Iowa Fraternity and Sorority Community started in 1866 with the first fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. 

One hundred and forty-nine years later, we are a community of over 3,600 students who are members of one of our 53 fraternities and sororities. This includes 23 Interfraternity Council chapters, 7 National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters, 8 Multicultural Greek Council chapters, and 15 Panhellenic Council chapters.

Acacia Fraternity (Ακακία)

Name of Scholarship:  Acacia Leadership Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements:    The ACACIA Leadership Scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated their ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities, and community involvement. The scholarship is available to any male, graduating senior from an accredited high school who attends The University of Iowa. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding:  $10,000 
Number of scholarships the chapter will be awarding:  1 - $3000, 1 - $2000, 1 - $1000, 8 - $500 
Is a man required to join this chapter to be eligible for this scholarship?   No 
Is a man required to join any fraternity to be eligible for this scholarship?  No

Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity (AEΠ)

Name of Scholarship:  Gene Wilder Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements:    A Jewish male with a 3.0 GPA striving to better the world. We are searching for a male who seeks to better himself, as well as the community around him. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding:  $1,000 
Number of scholarships the chapter will be awarding:  Up to 4: $250 each

Name of Scholarship: To Better the Man Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: The To Better the Man scholarship is eligible to all incoming male students at the University of Iowa with a minimum GPA of 3.0. We're looking for men that strive to better themselves shown by a desire and determination to excel in academics, participation in extracurricular activities, and involvement in your community. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding: $750

Name of Scholarship:The Men of Principle Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: The men of principle scholarship is offered to all incoming male freshmen or transfer students. It will offer four 500 dollar scholarships. There is no requirement for the recipient to join our chapter, but applicants must have a 3.00 GPA or higher. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding: $500

Delta Chi (ΔΧ)

Name of Scholarship:  Iowa Delta Chi Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements:  Applicant must be an incoming male freshman, have a high school GPA of ~3.5 or higher, involvement in more than one extracurricular, and meets the values Delta Chi upholds including character, justice, friendship, and education. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding:  $3000 
Number of scholarships the chapter will be awarding:  1 - $1500; 3- $500

Delta Upsilon (DΥ)

Name of Scholarship: The Merit Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements:   To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must be an incoming freshman to the University of Iowa and be enrolled for the Fall semester here. Their high school GPA must be a minimum of a 3.5, along with this the applicant must be joining the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and agree to live in the house. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding: $1000 
Number of scholarships the chapter will be awarding:  2 - $500 each

Kappa Sigma (KΣ)

Name of Scholarship:  Lawrence E. Kritenbrink Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements:   The Lawrence E. Kritenbrink Scholarship is eligible to all incoming male students at the University of Iowa who have shown commitment to their academics, extracurricular activities, and their communities throughout their four years of high school. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required for this scholarship. The scholarship is named after Lawrence E. Kritenbrink who has been an influential gentleman to our chapter and has shown us the value of brotherhood. Through his generous donations and assistance during our colonization, Lawrence demonstrates the true meaning of being a Kappa Sigma.

 Lambda Chi Alpha (ΛΧΑ)

Name of Scholarship: Jake Duff Award 
Scholarship Requirements: The Jake Duff award is a scholarship awarded by the men of Lambda Chi Alpha to incoming freshman who best exemplify our core values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service & Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. While the scholarship is designed to recruit new members, there is absolutely no obligation to join in order to receive the aid. Rather, the winners of this award will be the young men who would make great recruits for any fraternity.

Phi Delta Theta (ΦΔΘ)

Name of Scholarship: Nik Jiruska Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: Requirements: 
 Incoming freshman at Iowa. GPA > 3.0. 
 Phi Delta Theta fraternity, founded in 1848, focuses on three cardinal principles: friendship, sound learning, and moral rectitude. We offer 3 scholarships, 500 dollars each, to young men who fit the standard with which the fraternity was created, including men of good character and fair ability, who possess good morals and have a high sense of honor and personal responsibility regarding academics and other aspects of life.

Phi Kappa Psi (ΦΚΨ)

Name of Scholarship: Nile C. Kinnick Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: This scholarship is for incoming male freshmen to the University of Iowa. They do not need to be interested in joining Greek life, they simply must have a minimum of a 3.4/4.0 GPA from high school, along with a 25 minimum Composite ACT score. 
Total amount that the chapter will be awarding: $15000 
Number of scholarships the chapter will be awarding:Depends on the quality of applicants: Last year the money was dispersed like so: 8-$750, 4-$1,000, 1-$2,000, 1-$3,000.

Scholarship Requirements:  The Mark M. McCloy Scholarship has been established in memory of former chapter President Mark McCloy.  The purpose of the scholarship is to reward men with outstanding high school careers who are entering their first year at The University of Iowa.  Applicants must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in extracurricular activities in high school.

Scholarship Requirements: The Balanced Man Scholarship is the original Fraternity scholarship. It is intended to recognize five outstanding young man who shows balance in athletics, classwork, and the community.  Those who win the scholarship are under no obligation to join Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Name of Scholarship:Steve Lawler Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: This scholarship is named in honor of Sigma Pi Fraternity Xi Chapter alum and current Grand Council member Steve Lawler ('82).To be eligible for the Steve Lawler Scholarship one must be a freshman student at the University of Iowa, one must be enrolled in a least 12 semester hours for the fall semester, one must be entering the University of Iowa with at least a 3.0 High School GPA, and one most formally pledge Sigma Pi Fraternity Xi Chapter.

Tau Kappa Epsilon (ΤΚΕ)

 Name of Scholarship:The Matthews D. Wolfs Young Achiever Scholarship 
Scholarship Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen males who demonstrating high academic achievement and promise by having a minimum ACT score of 27 and a 3.0 high school GPA. Joining Tau Kappa Epsilon is a requirement for the $1,000 award, however, winners of the $500 award are not required to join any organization.
